Answers to the questions we hear most often.
A single window replacement typically takes 45–90 minutes depending on the window size and the condition of the existing frame. For a full-home project with 8–12 windows, we generally complete everything in one full day. We'll give you a specific time estimate for your project during the in-home consultation.
All ProVia windows come with a limited lifetime warranty on the product — covering glass, frames, hardware, and weatherstripping. We register your warranty with ProVia at the completion of your installation so you don't have to worry about it. We also stand behind our installation workmanship. If anything related to our work fails, we'll come back and fix it.
We are a ProVia certified installer. ProVia makes three residential window lines: Endure (entry vinyl, great value), Aeris (mid-grade vinyl, our most popular), and Aspect (premium wood-composite for architectural applications). All three are Energy Star certified and backed by ProVia's limited lifetime warranty. See our Products page for a detailed comparison.
Yes, we ask that you or another responsible adult be home during installation. We'll be moving through your rooms to reach each window, and we do a final walkthrough with you at the end to confirm everything looks right before we consider the job complete. For multi-day projects, we can discuss access arrangements on a case-by-case basis.
It depends on the municipality and the scope of work. In most Massachusetts cities and towns, like-for-like insert window replacements (same opening, same size) typically do not require a permit. Full-frame replacements that alter the rough opening generally do. We'll advise you on permit requirements for your specific project during the in-home consultation, and we can pull the permit for you if needed.
Yes. There's no minimum project size — we'll replace one window if that's what you need. That said, whole-home projects tend to offer better per-window value and the convenience of getting everything done at once. We'll walk you through both options and let you decide what makes sense for your budget and timeline.
Ask us about financing options during your consultation. We work with financing partners to help homeowners spread the cost of larger projects. Additionally, qualifying Energy Star windows may be eligible for the federal 25C tax credit — up to $600 per year — which can offset a meaningful portion of your project cost. We'll provide the product documentation you need to claim it.
Common signs include: drafts you can feel with your hand near the frame, condensation or frost on the interior glass, windows that stick or won't stay open, visible rot or soft spots in the frame, and noticeably cold rooms near exterior walls in winter. Original single-pane aluminum windows — common in homes built before 1990 — are always worth replacing regardless of condition. See our Why Replace? page for a full guide.
Insert replacement (also called pocket replacement) fits a new window unit inside the existing frame, preserving the interior and exterior trim. It's less invasive, less expensive, and faster — appropriate when the existing frame is in good structural condition. Full-frame replacement removes everything including the frame, rough opening trim, and exterior casing. It's more thorough, allows for resizing, and is the right choice when the existing frame has rot, damage, or poor insulation. We'll assess which approach is appropriate for each window during the in-home measurement visit.
